6 Sustainable Home Decor Trends You’ll See Everywhere in 2025 (That Also Help the Planet Not Burn)

By Kate I., Interior Designer & Climate-Conscious Sass Machine

“This changes everything” isn’t just the title of the climate book I’m currently side-eyeing on my nightstand (hi Naomi Klein)—it’s also how I feel every time a client says, “I want my home to be beautiful... but also not kill the planet.”

Spoiler: it’s totally possible.

As we've concluded by now, these fears are not unfounded. Over the past few decades, it has become painfully clear that unless we curb our appetite for excess, the world might look like a very different place by the time our children inherit it. Yes, we all love tropical hardwood and keeping up with the latest in interior design—but if we'd like to enjoy our planet for years to come, a different approach is required. Luckily, the latest (and hottest) in interior design is sustainability, and if you, like me, are spiraling about melting glaciers but still want a cozy kitchen that doesn’t look like a 1994 cabin rental, you’re in the right place. These 6 sustainable home decor trends aren’t just green — they’re hot. Like, Zendaya-in-Challengers hot.

1. Curated Vintage Is the New Luxury

You know what’s more sustainable than a “green” new sofa? One that already exists.

2025 is all about mixing pre-loved furniture with new pieces for that “rich in stories” vibe.

Mixing old and new isn’t just eco — it looks editorial. Like your living room could get featured in Architectural Digest or accidentally show up in a Sofia Coppola film.

Think: a mid-century sideboard you scored at a flea market, styled with fresh ceramics from an indie maker (wink wink, like mine?).

💡 Pro Tip:   Mix eras for a layered look. Your grandma's 70s floor lamp?

Pair it with a sculptural coffee table and watch the magic happen.

EU-Based Faves:

US Alternatives:

  • Chairish: iconic, curated, and the filters are chef’s kiss.

  • 1stDibs: for luxe vintage or serious statement pieces.

  • Facebook Marketplace: Hear me out—it’s chaos, but there are gems.

2. Limewash Walls Are Here to Stay (And They’re Low-VOC)

Smooth walls are out. Depth, texture, and a touch of decaycore romance? In.

Limewash is breathable, natural, and gorgeously moody. Plus, it’s usually low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) , which means better air quality for your lungs and the planet.

🎬 Mood board: Think Bridgerton dining room meets Dune lighting

- earthy, textured, timeless.

3. Natural Fibers Are the Main Characters

Polyester, we’re not friends anymore. Say hello to cotton, linen, jute, and wool — all beautiful and biodegradable.

Sustainable, durable, and oh-so-breathable, natural textiles are dominating interiors this year! Expect to see chunky rugs, stonewashed linen throws, and airy hemp curtains all over Pinterest and (let's be honest) my next project reveal.

🌿 Hot tip: Hemp is major. It’s sustainable, soft, and

practically grows on vibes alone.

  • Maison de Vacances: (France): luxe linen and earthy palettes.

  • Midnatt: (Sweden): organic cotton bedding in playful neutrals.

  • IKEA (VÅRDANDE line): their VÅRDANDE collection uses sustainable hemp and jute.

  • Parachute Home: soft linen everything, carbon neutral.

  • The Citizenry: global artisan textiles that are fair trade and stunning.

4. Plant-Based Paints & Plasters Are the Quiet Revolution

You can now paint your walls in algae and clay and it’s... chic? Yes, yes it is.

These plant-based and mineral paints are low-impact and come in earthy tones that feel timeless. And no headaches from harsh fumes? Consider me converted.

Plus, they come in delicious colors like “Burnt Peach,” “Mud Ritual,” and “Fog on the Olive Tree” (okay, I made that last one up... but it sounds legit, right?).

5. Furniture That Grows (Or At Least Regenerates)

The word “regenerative” is popping up more than villain twists in The White Lotus. In 2025, it’s not just about sustainable materials — it’s about ones that actively give back to the environment.

Look for furniture made from fast-growing bamboo, recycled aluminum, or mushroom-based bioplastics (yes, fungus chic is real). Look out for: stools made of mycelium, or tables made with reforested wood.

🍄 Extra points if it biodegrades better than that questionable

fast fashion dress haunting your wardrobe.

  • TIPTOE: (France): modular, recyclable furniture with FSC wood and French flair.

  • Wehlers: (Denmark): chairs made from recycled fishing nets and ocean plastic.

  • Wewood: (Portugal): solid wood furniture handcrafted with reforested timber.

  • Emeco: known for using recycled aluminum — sturdy and sleek.

6. Solar-Powered Smart Lighting Is Finally Cute

For a while, solar lights were... sad. But now? Design-led solar and kinetic-powered lighting is having a moment, with brands like Tala and Gantri offering sleek, sculptural options that save energy and make your room glow and they’re perfect for indoor/outdoor living ... Smart lighting systems help reduce unnecessary electricity use. Which is, you know, kinda major when your power bill looks like a Marvel post-credits scene.

  • Les Jardins: (France): kinetic & solar chic for outdoor + indoor.

Final Thoughts

Being sustainable doesn’t mean giving up style — it just means choosing pieces that respect both your taste and your values.

And if we can make even one climate scientist smile while creating a killer living room? That’s a win in my book.

Now go forth and decorate like the planet depends on it — because, honestly, it kinda does.
